Personal training benefits

Any form of exercise is going to be beneficial if:

  • You enjoy it

  • It's challenging

  • You are progressing each time you perform it (speed / pace on a run, faster swim laps. heavier weights lifted etc.)

  • It elevates your heart rate



So where does personal training fit in?

So, you've got your gym membership, you've set yourself a goal to lose 'X' amount of weight in a month and go to the gym 3 times a week.


This really is a great start, but what will you do when you get there? Do you know how to lift, how to use the machines, how challenging is challenging?


As you'll see in the 'my journey' blog, I have always been active, pretty balanced with my nutrition and love being outdoors.

And I was the person I just described above. I went to the gym 3 times a week, did 3 sets of 10 on the moves that I knew, I got occasional DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) so that felt like I was all good. But nothing much was changing other than I felt good from endorphins; my body wasn't changing, I wasn't losing weight & I started getting bored.


Fast forward to 2019 when I hired a PT and started small group coaching sessions with her and boom! Eyes opened to my nutrition, how much I really hadn't pushed myself like I thought I was doing, using and understanding different machines and movements that challenged my muscles differently and then I saw real changes in my body and how I felt about myself and my body. My passion for weightlifting grew and here I am today to help as many other women as possible realise the benefits of weightlifting and having a plan for your training.


Let's make a list:

  1. By hiring a coach / Personal Trainer, you are buying into their expertise of the field and their passion, which will all be passed on to you. I like to explain to my clients the 'whys' of what the plan involves, not just tell them which exercises to perform.

  2. You have a plan and you are accountable. Whether you are in person or having online coaching, I will write you a personal plan for your goals, abilities and requirements to ensure it is a sustainable, manageable and enjoyable journey to your goals. We will book them in to ensure accountability and log progress through my app.

  3. Being with a coach helps you push harder whether that be heavier weights, extra reps, longer run distances, your coach will guide you and push you.

  4. Weightlifting specifically is my big passion and is beneficial at all ages for many different reasons. I'll go into the specifics on another post but here's a few main ones:

  • Increased bone density (lowered risk of Osteoporosis), improved body composition, endorphin release, increase in muscle fibres, improved posture, increases your body's ability to use calories, improved heart health with a decrease in blood pressure, improved flexibility.....and so on!
